Pateley Bridge Dramatic Society will be taking to the stage with their customary verve this summer, as they are set to perform ‘The Whitby Rebels’, a fantastic story based on a real-life event and woven into a superb play by Bea Roberts.
In Whitby Harbour, in the summer of 1991, something extraordinary happened. A humble pleasure boat set sail for the Arctic, crewed by misfits, pensioners and the vicar for Egton and Grosmont.
This motley crew was assembled for a daring mission: to erect a plaque honouring the legendary Whitby whaler and explorer Captain William Scoresby Senior on a volcanic island hundreds of miles north of Iceland. The boat was illegal, the crew untrained and the plan… unhinged.
A joyful, (mostly) true story of British eccentricity and determination, Bea Roberts’s play ‘The Whitby Rebels’ is a ripping yarn that will surely thrill the audiences.
The performances will be held in the Pateley Bridge Playhouse on Friday 3rd July and Saturday 4th July at 7.30pm. It will then continue from Tuesday 7th July to Saturday 11th July, with performances again starting at 7.30pm. All tickets will cost £15 and are now on sale.
